I have concerns about chatbots.

But. I am enjoying the education in just how much I hallucinate the thoughts and feelings of other people and other social groups in order to construct a predictable social sense of my world. Rarely are lessons in humility detached enough from one's own pride to really think it over.

I think my social hallucinations can evolve only by listening more attentively to others.

I don't understand how an can believe in . (At least not a strict materialist atheist.) It seems to me like a belief in some sort of a spirit (or some similar non-material entity or substance) is necessary to believe in freewill. Am I wrong?

I think my biggest problem with continental philosophy is Lacan and Levinas (Heidegger seems to me to be mainly talking with himself, so why engage).
Why not engage with contemporary psychology instead of old theorists? Both Lacan and Freud seems to "pathologize" humanity in general. Why go along with an idea that the human face says "thou shall not kill" when it seems an empirical fact that it does not?

The Five Senses by Michel Serres, and I find his emphasis on the skin and the sense of touch illuminating.
There is a truth of the body experienced by using one's skin that cannot be accessed through the contemplative and
discursive experience of the world. In this sense, a person working with their body is closer to "truth" than a
contemplative Plato. Serres writes "No-one sees dancing shadows on the walls of the cave when a fire is burning
inside."

Readers and philosophers of Mastodon, do you have a note-taking strategy/system? Do you take handwritten notes, digital notes, or both? Are your notes detailed, or do you prefer to make broad summaries to remind you of the main points?

My forthcoming nonfiction book is about gestures.

Why gestures?

Because theyโ€™re typically small & fleeting, yet they can arise from vast, ancient contexts. I want to oppose a narrow & falsely neat vision of humanity: just this discrete body, just โ€œnowโ€.

Iโ€™m interested in the way our familiar signs are archives of forgotten or denied pasts. Iโ€™m curious about temporality: the way a movement works rhythmically.

I love whose authors state their ideological and intellectual leanings clearly, instead of pretending to achieve some contrived neutrality. When the perspective of the author is clear, you are enrished by his ideas. You are also aware of them as perspectives that are fallible. The most dangerous ideology is that which keeps itself hidden and cloaked in a false impartiality.

Hello , what are some philosophers interested in the senses, and the difference between them from an experiential standpoint. I am interested particularly in the sense of hearing, and why it feels much closer to us than, say, sight. For example, the noises of neighbors affect us much more deeply than anything we can see. Hearing somehow feels much closer to thought, and to consciousness. It feels much more violating. I'd love to examine that more fully. @philosophy
