I disagree with her on the definition of law though. To me, the original definition of law, that is, a command enforced by a threat of force from a superior authority, is a good definition.

The counterargument 'what about international law?' has a simple answer: international "law" is not law. At best, it's a set of customs, at worst, a good manners' rulebook.

The main argument for international law to be law is jusnaturalist: there is a certain type of law that is natural (divine, most of the time), above and beyond the laws of sovereigns, that apply even when state laws contradict them. It's based on the classic mistake of confusing what is, and what ought to be. Complete theoretical garbage.

Seeing how #PhilosophyTube's comments on gender dysphoria as a category error have been mangled and warped by birdsite is immensely upsetting on multiple levels and I'm not sure if I have the ability to express exactly how and why this is an existential problem for queer subjectivity and basic autonomy. Like... the Clinic has never been a friend to the marginalized, especially queer and trans people, and yet we feel a need to rely on its terminology to provide our misery finity, unambiguity that might ease our tension with the stoic sociocognitive norms that fail to recognize us.
We need to change our understanding of fundamental aspects of personhood in ways that will inevitably come into tension with the clinical models designed to serve cispatriarchy. At this moment, I'm really not sure how much more can be said: queerness-as-pathology was never going to get us all the way through - assuming it ever truly "helped" us at all.
