Und ja, es ist eine ganz andere Hausnummer, ob eine Firma/Verein oder eine Privatperson womöglich etwas reinschwappt, das nicht nur hinsichtlich des Jugendschutzes problematisch ist; dann kann es wirklich kritisch werden.
Ein weiterer Punkt, warum ich für verdächtige Anhänge gerne alles durch #PhotoDNA jagen würde.

@michael Mastodon 4.2 seems to have additional webhooks on created stati (don't know yet whether it fires for remote stati -- it would sure be a lot!). I consider writing a tool that uses this to (after queueing) does some P*rn detection scripts and purge that stuff right away, and, when lots of skin is detected, probably checking against #photodna

The tool is good though. But on a multi user instance, only for the worst of hashtags, which typically won't show up here.

What I'm not completely believing is this other statement:

"some centralized components
will be required, particularly in the area of child safety."

This refers to hashing tools such as #PhotoDNA governed by (again!) #GAFAM

Is there any other way around?

It's annoying seeing mastodon users getting defensive about The Stanford Report on Child Safety when what we should be doing is calling on Mastodon gGmbH to add the Directions for Future Improvement features to the roadmap.

I'm not an expert but the stuff on PhotoDNA and CyberTipline support sounds like a win to me.

@jim I'm not sure how much "collaboration" there can be, when one side has already unilaterally decreed they will do certain things whether you like it or not.

Rozenshtein says there are "reasons for optimism" when it comes to the Fediverse's ability to police this content, though as he unpacked this idea, I found it much weaker than his other material. Rozenshtein proposes that Fediverse hosts could avail themselves of #PhotoDNA, #Microsoft's automated scanning tool, to block and purge themselves of CSAM, while noting that this is "hardly foolproof."
