#Wine belongs to the people. and here are some photos of this year #Embutada held in #Tarragona where new wine (vi novell) is celebrated with tours, music and a large wine tasting session in the middle of the square.
It's a nod to the past when Tarragona was a major wine hub thanks to its port: wine from all the south of Catalunya was sent to the city by rail to be shipped abroad and business was booming. Then came the devastation thanks to the #Phylloxera, a vine pest imported from the US around 1860's, that almost destroyed all the grape industry in Europe (I will post about this at a later stage because it's a fascinating story). By the time wine production recovered technology and the geopolitical landscape had changed; the golden age of transatlantic wine shipping was over.
