@paulg i emailed you last night about getting rent money for #piñafork, i’m also not opposed to that ceo role. i had a pretty good run at netflix collaborating with diverse stakeholders globally.

i deeply recognize the challenges with twitter are social and not technical. being a graduate from liberty university, i’m also deeply intimate with the historical challenges of civil rights in the US and getting into standup comedy has helped further my abilities in diffusing tense situations.

twitter hq is only a couple blocks away from the recording studio i collaborate out of already, not a problem for me to swing by, if you can put a word in.

my goal is to make opt-in spaces versus the opt-out default as we have it today. i’m not changing fundamentally how federation works, just making more mutual spaces for how people can show up.

super early, but i’m working under the hashtag #piñafork, since i’ll be using @pinafore as the foundation.

the short of it, think more iMessage meets discord and less twitter. chat is the lowest common global denominator for social imo.

@jonny i’m at the forefront of a pinafore fork i’m calling #piñafork. the main design goal is to unify feeds/lists/timelines/groups into a single ui.

i envision the default view is chronological, like a chat app, but i really want each “stream” to be configured in the userland for which algo to use.

i haven’t been actively looking to that portion, but i would be curious if there’s overlap and i hope and think there is.

release notes so far:

1. add basic orangered dark theme based on hacker theme

2. added module and made it compatible with svelte and pinafore lint opinions

3. add a "chat mode" toggle to wellness settings that will capture the ui if enabled.

next up will be getting the ability to disable chat mode from within chat mode, then rendering streams, which will be the interesection of instances and feeds/timelines.

the threaded post was selected and the other posts in the main stream faded away, while the thread expanded into a drawer-style stream.

everyone seems excited about a new #piñafork release in this excited sidebar.

hopefully my rationale justifies this redesign; by baking the assumption of unlisted posts into the interface we’ll never need to think of it. and we can have more flexibility with who and how we as the #federati engage with one another and hopefully fostering closer friendships online.

@darius shared a local only redesign issue after our conversation yesterday.

i am thinking of a total redesign that can be compatible with hometown as is today, but also flexible into the future.

i have been on hometown for over two years and digested all the thoughts from that thread.

the next three posts will be early wireframes i have envisioning a full redesign.

individual components i make for #piñafork will be reusable as html tags on any webpage that might want to embed them.

i would like to be able to commit on git and trigger deployments for hometown and pinafore.

i have the domain and can update the dns records to point to the server.

the pinafore fork will be the #piñafork flavor i’m starting on, available for any #federati to use.

the hometown service will be vanilla and kept at parity with friend camp

i will start as informed admin and invites will only be distributed to people i meet in person.

i will operate with rough consensus until i comply with demands of the community to be overthrown and replaced with a better form of governance.
