I will keep using :manjaro: on my #raspberry #pi4.
I chose it because there is less regular update to do to keep it up-to-date compare to arch.
(I didn't install any desktop environment).

remember me, ranting about my #pi4 and #linux problem?! turns out, the #pi4 has some issues with older tvs due to some changes that were necessary to support 4k and such. for me the #pi4 as #pi3 replacement died the moment i touched the microhdmi adapter slightly and my screen lost signal. nope. thats it, way too sensitive. what to do with a pi4 now?! 🤔

and now i find out, that problem is a #pi4 problem and it has been there since the fuckin start. what did i buy this shit for?

i had a solid raspi3 setup running with #libreelec for years. now it bugged me with update notifications. after 3 years of waiting for a #pi4 i finally got one to upgrade my setup. simple. flash new libreelec image on sd, replace #pi3 with #pi4, connect to hdmi and done. NOPE! fucking hell no! just a fucking blackscreen and nothing else. jesus fucking christ - i am so fucking sick of it. every fucking time - every - fucking - time. i wish linux and all its forms would work but they fucking dont

Finally taken the 2 minutes needed to stop mmcblk0/mmcblk1 flapping in #munin for my #Pi4:

Context: one might get either mmcblk0 or mmcblk1 while booting. That's not a problem when using label-based booting, but that makes monitoring a little tricky.

oops I seem to have jumped the gun upgrading my #kodi #pi4 to #bookworm. There are bookworm repos on the archive.raspberrypi.org but they seem to be devoid of packages. Without the #vc4 firmware video decode performance takes a nose dive. Does anyone know where to find them? Any staging repo used for testing? #Debian haven't started shipping the vc4 #firmware in non-free-firmware have they? #lazyweb

And whilst all previous versions of the #RasberryPi just use the bootcode.bin on a fat32 filesystem to startup, the #Pi4, #CM4 & #Pi400 have their bootcode as seperate #EEPROM which also houses the #NetInstaller system:

Fortunately there is extensive #documentation on the #RasberryPi [unlike basically all #clones like the #BananaPi] so #porting it works fine...

@Toasterson Well, the @Raspberry_Pi doesn't actually have a #UEFI, but a simple & minimal ROM that - as @geerlingguy showcased - merely fits a #NetInstaller:

Instead of UEFI, on the #Pi4 - like the original #RaspberryPi - the Broadcom SoC looks for a bootcode at a specific adress and then proceeds to load the initramfs and kernel to boot.

One of the coolest things to me on the internet is that there are people who continuously update the #NHL 94 #Sega #Genesis ROM for each new season to the point they even have added in expansion teams (Vegas/Seattle)

Now that my #Retropie setup is complete on the repurposed #Pi4 (scraping took several overnight screen sessions) it's time to load up the latest again.
