Nebraska advertiser., May 29, 1879, page 1 ran a large ad for #pianos and #organs at W.W. #Kimball's store in Chicago.
Kimball had founded the business in 1857 and was on his way to becoming the biggest piano producer in the world; by 1900, his annual production was 20K pianos/year!

Old music shops - they don't make them like that anymore. This picture dates from 1938 but the shop looked the same when I was a music loving teenager in the 1980s. The company also built pianos, and their instruments were found in every school around here. I last had contact with shop owner / piano maker Mr Knudsen in 2000. He was 90, still working as a piano tuner and kept record of every piano he had ever tuned.
