Squab news! The squab on my balcony is now a pigeon and had just, in the last few minutes, flown the nest. Good luck out there in the world, little pigeon!

Through my window today... a pigeon looking after its newly hatched squab! I've been keeping an eye on them for nearly a month and one of the eggs finally hatched this afternoon. Hopefully, the other will follow tomorrow (they were laid a day apart).

The pigeon is currently sitting completely on the squab, keeping it warm until it starts to grow feathers of its own.

Here we are, 3 months later, and she is finally safe and ready. My little miracle pigeon.

Today was George's freedom day. I gave her a little bracelet so I'll always know it's her. We hugged, she played in my hair, and tried to eat my earrings one last time.

She was awkward at first, but George quickly joined the other pigeons on my roof. I feed the flock daily and I'll be looking out for her constantly, but I'm happy to see her get to live a normal pigeon life with other birds.

Time passed, and slowly George was able to hold her head up and eat on her own. We started flying lessons in the cat-free guest room. She was pretty terrible at it.

George helped decorate for Halloween, participated in an APTea party, perched awkwardly on everything, and never pooped on me.

She quickly grew into a healthy, adult pigeon.

Four days passed, and George was still with me! Still showing neurological symptoms, but much better! She could eat a little on her own, and she had destroyed our downstairs bathroom.

Because paramyxovirus is so contagious, we were in a little predicament with her getting better. When would it be safe to release her?
There was the obvious -- no symptoms could be present. But the scientific community largely agrees on 6 weeks after last symptoms.

So we bought George her own condo and she became a temporary resident of the cat-house.
