Donnerstag habe ich eine Tasse voller Früchte vom Kreuzdorn gesammelt und habe den Saft ausgekocht und ausgequetscht. Mit Natriumcarbonat und Alaun ergab sich ein dunkelgrüner Bodensatz, den ich durch filtrieren gewonnen habe. Danach habe ich mehr Natriumcarbonat zugegeben und habe hellgrünes Filtrat erhalten. Das Dunkelgrün ist auch sehr schön. Freue mich auf beide Farben 💚

Blue birds aren't actually blue. Red and yellow feathers get their color from actual pigments, called carotenoids, that are in the foods birds eat. Blue is different - no bird species can make blue from pigments. The color blue that we see on a bird is created by the way light waves interact with the feathers and their arrangement of protein molecules, called keratin.

Here is another #illumination for you. It shows King David playing the harp, as seen in the Old Testament part of the Christian #Bible. I have painted this one with homemade colours (most of them are historic #pigments) and raised gold leaf on homemade gesso.

Sooo... finally I did it. The YInTiCo video went live today. I collected all the data I could find and put it into a short video of about 10 minutes. While I painted this birdie (using YInTiCo and other pigments), I talked about all the fun stuff and properties.
