Intraspecific variability of in banksiana

Rear-edge populations (with low frequency) are less serotinous & more variably than range-core pops where serotiny is more uniformly high, by Pelletier et al

That is, results for Pinus banksiana (boreal) are quite similar to those for P. halepensis & P. pinaster (mediterranean species).

Estimating the age of & their is tricky, as they often produce more than 1 whorl per year!

I can only guess at what some of these words mean (sorry, botanists), but this seems to be a cool example of tree bet-hedging in fire-prone regions.
