Aimless floating ghosts roaming streets in pale sunlight.
Watching people and days drift by.
Wondering if they know.

Our conversation is laboured.
Around us the city sprawls.
His German in growing pains,
and my head besieged
by yesterday's spirits.
We smile, we talk coffee.
He says where he comes from
coffee is magic in itself.
You just don't add anything.
I quip that it should be the same with people and for a moment
we are both sad.
We smile, we talk coffee some more.

Being human is easy.

I spill words like I spill coffee.
A sudden rush and they ooze all over the place.
Society taught me to immediately contain my mess.
But coffee leaves stains.

Dirk Bogart & Sylvia Syms star in this incredibly brave & daring 60s film, with Bogart risking his career for it. A man is blackmailed for being gay & commits suicide in the police station. The other person in the photo is a well known barrister about to take silk. Surely he’s an easy target who won’t risk his marriage, career & position to out the blackmailer. Very sympathetic and possibly Bogart’s best.
