I've been thinking/writing/advocating (cmp. in German "Ping-Koinzidenz" "Ping-Koinzidenz-Gitter" "Pingdauer") as basic construction or method of measurement in implementing [Einstein's maxime](einsteinpapers.press.princeton)

Yes the tetrahedral-octahedral honeycomb can be extended "regularly"; cmp. Sierpinski tetrahedra (of any order)

But glue them "less orderly", cmp. [The Quadrahelix: A Nearly Perfect Loop](arxiv.org/abs/1610.00280) ...
