The Aronia bushes replace two mugo pine bushes (Pinus mugo 'Slowmound') that couldn't survive in the location due to the clay soil, not enough sun and too much moisture. Mugo pine is a popular choice in my area, but evidently it needs sunnier, drier and better soil conditions than my side garden can provide.

Going with my friend on her trip to the garden centre let me indulge the plant- buying urge without paying for it all myself. She got #hellebores, #skimmia, #clematis Winter Beauty, #rosemary, #pinusMugo, #vinca, #ferns and mulch. Wow.
