Took ~2.5 hours of grayscale exposure on the Pinwheel Galaxy (Messier 101) as a test dataset as I evaluate PixInsight. Might try for some color tonight if the weather permits. Second image highlights the location of the lingering supernova.

A quick view of Supernova 2023ixf that’s located in the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101) in the norther night sky. The cloud cover has been a near constant here (May Gray as they call it in Los Angeles), so as soon as they parted long enough I dragged out the telescope and did what I could.

This is Messier 101, also known as the Pinwheel Galaxy. M101 is 21 million light years away from earth. This represents 6 hours of RGB data taken over two nights in Hemet, CA. -tech

I revisited the Sunday night with my new telescope. This image is ten 3-minute exposures. There is significant vignetting with this set up which I dealt with by using calibration frames and cropping. how to process so I will keep revisiting this subject. I also want to figure out how to bring out the colors in the ionized hydrogen areas.

The (M101) is a large face-on spiral galaxy about 21 million light years from us. It contains a trillion stars. This heavily cropped image begins to sshow the spiral arms with hot bright ionized hydrogen areas where stars form. This image is eight 10-minute exposures that I captured last night when the skies were unexpectedly clear as I got ready for bed. Needless to say, it was
