Quadra 700 did not like #piscsi and then I remebered termination. Weirdly it worked just fine on the 950.
Feels just a tiny bit ridiculous to emulate a #scsi device with GHz device for a 33Mhz #computer

It seems to work pretty…okay? The IIfx takes quite a bit longer to boot with the #PiSCSI attached, and it takes a long time for MacOS to mount a CD once it’s been attached in the PiSCSI web app. I’m guessing that this is because the PiSCSI hardware is connected through the external CD drive, rather than directly to the Mac (I didn’t have these issues when testing it internally last month).
Also, when I teated internally, obviously the #BlueSCSI wasn’t connected as well. Could this be a termination issue? Although I thought termination is required both on the internal and external chains.
Could also just be the IIfx’s notorious SCSI weirdness coming into play. After all, everything is working, and I can live with the slow boots/mounts.
Love me a good new old stock SCSI cable. I wonder if that lifetime warranty is still good?
In theory this should let me connect my #PiSCSI and external CD-ROM drive at the same time. But will it work with the IIfx’s weird SCSI termination behaviour?

@thatKomputerKat I thought the #PiSCSI had support for emulating one of the SCSI ethernet cards? Not Asante but Dayna something.
I *knew* there was an advantage to being an infosec researcher with an interest in #retrocomputing
ClamAV has a vulnerability that can only be triggered when it scans a specially made HFS+ partition file. HFS+ is the partition format for Apple Macs starting with Mac OS 8.1.
My experience with the #PiSCSI and #sheepshaver #emulator has prepared me for this day. Lookin to make me some #retromalware 😜

#PiSCSI 23.02 is now available for download!
https://github.com/PiSCSI/piscsi/releases/tag/v23.02.01
- Improved configuration file handling
- New logo in web interface
- Improvements to creating and loading ISO images
Thank you to everyone who has contributed and reported errors!
Just a little bit of #RetroComputing for the evening.
I’m too tired to read a script tonight, so just downloading some software with the #Powerbook5300 with its newly installed #System8_6.
Thanks to #PiSCSI I was able to install clean OS and get the #FarallonEthernet adaptor working again.
I love this… SO much.

So, I know I've been a little quiet of late - work has been hard - but I've managed to get some progress on the #powerbook5300CE and #PiScsi.
Looks like the Raspberry pi 3 I had didn't like the hat, so I switched it for a Raspberry pi 4 that I had attached to my 3D printer.
It's not a long term solution, but I was able to nuke the HD and reinstall System 8.6!
Finalt got hold of a bench PSU to run my #Macintosh #PowerBook 170. HD is toast, as is the backlight…#PiSCSI solves the former but not the latter 😁. On the bright side (🤓) this thing is very power efficient without backlight! Also, first time on the Web with a PowerBook 1xx. 👍#retrocomputing

If any of my #hardwarehacking #hardwarehacker #retrocomputing followers know the answer to this question about troubleshooting physical connectors of a #piscsi / #rascsi device, I'd really appreciate it.
I built one of these about a month ago, and I tested it yesterday on a retro Mac - the drive wasn't detected on the SCSI bus.
I checked the troubleshooting instructions in the #PiSCSI Github Troubleshooting page (https://github.com/PiSCSI/piscsi/wiki/Troubleshooting) and built out a set of jumpers in the DB25 connector, and ran the python test script. The result wasn't good.
I'm now in the process of getting a real DB25 breakout board with a plug so I can rule out my janky jumper wires as a culprit in the test going south. But my question is: If these six pairs of pins (shown in red boxes) are truly not signalling properly...wat do?
I'm not sure where the fault lies - is it a failure of the chips soldered onto the board? There was a lot of surface-mount that ain't perfect but seems to work. Is there some other component that has failed? It's hard to know how to approach the problem at this scale.
Any ideas?

So I pulled the trigger on getting a #RaspberryPi 3 Model A+, because who knows when the stock will be replenished otherwise.
As for the #PiScsi - it looks like they're all sold out of the fully assembled standard configuration. I could buy one in the compact configuration but I suspect that would cause even more problems when trying to find a case, since that one's meant to be used with the Pi Zero.
Does anyone make #PiScsi cases for the RPi 3 Model A+? I did a quick Google search but could only find cases for the Pi Zero.
I'd really like a PiScsi but would prefer not to have a bare circuit board on my desk 😅
New project has arrived: Mac SE SuperDrive. Thankfully the seller did a great packing job and no broken plastics.
Boots but the drive isn’t reading disks so I’m waiting on a PiSCSI. I’ll be pulling it apart for a cleaning and repair in the coming weeks.
It has “UNCC Biology RM 416” engraved on the side. Neat!
@ActionRetro @redscsi There’s a blurb on their wiki here! https://github.com/akuker/RASCSI/wiki#introduction-and-history
TL;DR:
* RaSCSI (OG), #SCSI for the Sharp X68000 by GIMONS in Japan
* #RaSCSI > RaSCSI Reloaded > RedSCSI > #PiSCSI a fork from the above that significantly evolved on its own and beyond the orignal (which still exists!)—that’s the one you had on your channel!
