"A key principle of PKM is that no one has the right answer, but together we can create better ways of understanding complex systems. We each need to find others who are sharing their knowledge flow and in turn contribute our own. It’s not about being a better digital librarian, it’s about becoming a participating member of a networked organization, economy and society."

“As we come to terms with forms of cognition not centered on
single brains, interaction looms large as the crucial connective tissue: ontologically prior,
epistemologically fundamental, ecologically sound. As the cognitive sciences enter their next
phase, interaction will be core to the enterprise of understanding how minds are made.”

We are only one week away from the start of the next personal knowledge mastery online workshop on 6 February. I've been running these cohort-based sessions for over 10 years and they are continuously updated. The new sessions feature Mastodon instead of the bird site for understanding social networks. There's lots more. Pass this on and/or join an international group of learners
In some ways over the past couple of centuries we have collectively forgotten the power of social learning. Most of our education systems are based on individual grades. Many of our workplaces have individual performance reviews. Apprentice programs are only available in a select few occupations.
We have developed as social animals & our brains are wired to deal with social relationships. By combining technology with our brainpower, we can figure things out.
social learning powers distributed work
Developing trusted relationships across disciplinary silos will become essential for all fields of human work. No single discipline has all the answers. The answer to solving complex problems is diverse, distributed networks of trust in order to take action and co-create value. Social learning through trusted human relationships is how we will get there. The way to start is to open up, share, and connect with others.

I'm running three personal knowledge mastery online workshops this year. Each is six weeks long with 18 activities.
After registering, participants can take a subsequent workshop at no additional cost. That means they could sign up for the February start, take a break, continue with the April start, and finish with the last one in October.
There is no pressure and lots of time for practice and reflection.
The role of learning departments in these chaotic & complex continuing crises should be —
observation > narration > curation.
I wrote this at the beginning of the pandemic, which is not over
I have finished the redesign of my #PKMastery online workshop which starts on 6 February. I've switched from using the bird-site for examples of online social networks to a focus on Mastodon and covenants.
Here is my thinking on making these changes ...
I know #Mastodon isn't perfect, but there're 2 things I enjoy, as my #Unlearning process away from #MediaTools:
- #Friction: There is a lot of it, the barrier of entry is high. But I love it, because it's making me question hard how easy we had it before by being manipulated to extract data from us (for free)
- #Disorientation: Most of the times I feel pretty much lost trying to make sense of MT, but that's the beauty of it. Putting the energy, effort, intent & focus in equal terms

“Ironic understanding involves the mental flexibility to recognize how inadequately flexible are our minds, and the languages we use, to the world we try to represent in them; it therefore includes the ability to consider alternative philosophic explanations, and is characterized by a Socratic stance in the world.” —Kieran Egan, 1997
Jony Ive showed how important it is to integrate learning and working. We have to feed our curiosity, support learning in community, and resolve to solve our problems together.
“The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” —F. Scott Fitzgerald
I've been running personal knowledge mastery online workshops for over 10 years with hundreds of participants from across the globe. Feedback has consistently been positive. One main criticism is lack of time, so all participants can come back at any time at no extra charge. Many have done so.
Three workshops are scheduled for 2023 — the next starts on 6 February
