Tip for the academically-inclined who don't want to be accused of elitism:

Just because you say something is a 'fallacy' or a 'tautology' doesn't mean you've won the argument.

On the contrary, you might be trying to hide behind big words because you're scared of losing the argument.

@willreid This links to a wider point about the need for 'two word acronyms' at all.
Scientific papers should avoid them at all costs, certainly not invent new ones. It is all done because of word-counts, but you can always save words in other ways.

A quote promoting both plain language and editorial skill:

By about 2057, my prediction is that the Microsoft Word grammar checker will have finally vanquished the phrase 'in order to' and made it extinct.

summary from Harry Hampel's group on the use of Lumbar Puncture. There are loads of them. Are these like the opposite of @deevybee 's AI Mangleglot sets? Imagine a version for me and a version for the patient and family 😲

Last month, the 2022 for literature went to the U of Edinburgh team that measured what makes legal documents unintelligible, “to know empirically: how bad is it?”

No surprise. It's not the legal concepts but poor writing that makes legal documents hard to grasp.
