They cajole and sleaze and lie their way into some good sales. Numbers go up. Quarterly results go up. Stock goes up. CEO makes a lot of money.
Long term disadvantage: customers figure out they're being screwed with. Again, sales start declining in the future, but that's after management cashes out, so it happens.
