Went and physically got copies of records for source indexing my family tree. And once again I'm absolution amazed with my local library. I was also invited to join the genealogical society of my city as well a the descendants of the Mayflower. Which was continuing what started under William the Conqueror. Part of the mythic elements in the #RobinHood stories is the idea of a Saxon supporting the Norman king at all, let alone having a noble estate returned to his line after it had been given over to a Norman knight.
I suspect much bardic license taken with a tale based on the common experience of disenfranchised Saxons becoming forest outlaws under John's regency and the possibility of Richard's return leading to some cancellation of debts so that they could return to their communities (a promise that was largely unkept IIRC).
Wrapping propaganda in bardic romance was commonplace enough that minstrels were sometimes expelled from places where their messages were deemed unwelcome. The Hood story may be one of the rare examples that became a romantic #folklore favourite that stayed popular over generations/centuries.

It was a letter, signed "Patenoster" or "Patenostre", and i believe the recip was Blanche of #Artois. The letter mentions Henry (II?or III?) #Plantagenet and seemed to cover the affairs of some lands, specifically a #convent if I recall right. It was in an older French #dialect, and a date had been added to the top "1300". The poster worked for an auction house, IIRC.
