I'm doing something out of the ordinary (for me) and taking the week leading up to #CampNaNoWriMo to do some actual plotting and prepping. Last night, I read through what I have of my first draft so far to re-acquaint myself with that world. Tonight I start reviewing the rough outline I made during #NaNoWriMo and revising it based on what I actually wrote. I guess I'm a #plantser now!

One of the most important lessons I've learned as a writer comes from improv classes. "Leave yourself somewhere to go" - a story doesn't have to escalate immediately, emotions should be used with nuance. This is why I'm fatigued with Marvel: how many times can humanity/Earth/the universe be in danger? I realize this is especially important when you intend to write a series.

I started out as a pantser, but it took me a long time to finish a draft. So I have gradually moved more to starting with a rough outline. I still really like the 'discovery' portion, where new characters jump in, things happen that grew organically out of the story. So yeah, I have to move things around. Happily, Scrivener makes that easy to do. But with my latest draft I realized I needed to really flesh out my 'B' story so I need to add some scenes.

I'm still struggling with describing the creative process that I've arrived at by simply doing without external influence. I recently learned the term #plantser which I like, but it doesn't say much. So many terms around creative processes are mechanical, and the creative process is anything but. The closest I can come is a rather psychedelic mix of gardening, weaving, and sewing. Also Origami.
Creating is a really psychedelic process.

Plantser here! I figure out my characters and their main problem/conflict and also have the end in mind, but I don't outline anything. I just start randomly writing scenes.

Reader: I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Me (as the author): I know, right?! Me too!

@Charleyhall I can completely relate. There is one character in the series I am presently writing that I adore, even if he can be 'difficult' to get talking. He misbehaves and only doles out information in stages, including things that would have been good to know an entire novel ago. (and to anyone that isn't a #pantser or #plantser I realize just how batshit crazy that sounds)
KISS is a #ContemporaryRomance I started drafting to learn how to outline and avoid my worldbuilding rabbit hole, and to be simpler than a scifi trilogy. A #sapphic #ployamory #romance that has me juggling three protagonists! It has taught me a lot, not least that I’m a pantser that also needs the structure of a plotter. So, a #plantser. With #ADHD getting in the way of managing all my Scrivener cards! 😅
I love these characters and they’ve taught me so much.
