He wrote in the #Forward:

In 1935, Edward & his wife Minnie were featured in a #Quaker State Motor #Oil #Advertisement.
Edward examines a #Cactus in while his daughter Marquetta and son Edward gather around. Minnie is standing behind them, looking on.
Soon Edward was fielding requests from #Gardeners for more information about his cactus garden. The letters gave Edward and Minnie the #Idea to start a #MailOrder business for their #Plants.

#OTD Birth of Albert Etter, American #Plantsman & #Plant #Breeder.
Today, people are trying to find & save Etter apple trees.
His #Surprise #Apple, from Kazakhstan, had #Pink flesh.
At 21, Albert got 640 acres of free land he called #Ettersburg & shared his tip to maximize the land:
"How many is 15,000 apple trees?
Planted 30 feet apart, a row of 15,000 would cover 35 miles.
The little seedlings I grow, are top-grafted on large trees, sometimes 200-300 on a single tree."
