A plaque marking the birthplace of Charles Rennie MacKintosh, probably Glasgow's most famous architect, in the Townhead area of the city in June 1868. In the 1890s, MacKintosh returned to the area to design the Saint Martyr's school which would have been visible from the tenement where he was born. While the school remains, the tenement itself is now long gone.

"At the end of World War I, he [André Michelin] started to produce distance markers and signs. His goal was to introduce simple, effective, and lasting signage.
"Nameplates were made of enameled lava while their bases were made of reinforced concrete... Michelin manufactured several thousand signs until the early 1970s."

The #tomb of John Richard Norris (1859-1932) in #Fairview #cemetery in #culpeper #Virginia. The photos were taken by me on July 8, 2023. The #plaque gives a brief #genealogy of the #gentleman. I was rather pleased to randomly come across this plaque on a tenement on Dumbarton Road in Yoker today. I remember watching 'All Creatures Great and Small' as a child, but I only recently realised that the vet it was based on was: A. Real; and B. From Glasgow (you'd never have guessed this from Christopher Timothy's accent in the 1980s TV series!).

The two metal structures are the flame #deflectors, which are meant to sit under the #launch table during launch to divert #rocket #exhaust away from the #vehicle to avoid thermal, acoustic, or debris issues, as well as to minimize damage to #pad #infrastructure.
Theses #FlameDeflectors were used at LC-34 for the #Saturn I and the larger, wider one was used for the upgraded Saturn IB. Flame delflectors are meant to divert the #exhaust of a #rocket as it #launches to protect the #vehicle and #pad #infrastructure.
After the #Apollo Program was finished, #LC34’s tower was dismantlted to prevent its uncontrolled collapse due to rust from the salt spray. The rest was #abandoned in place and a #memorial #plaque and kiosk were to memorialize the deaths of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee during the Apollo 1 fire.

I don't think many people realise that the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) was founded by a woman (Emily Williamson) who was fighting against the fashion for birds being killed to provide big feathers for ladies' hats. She is being honoured with a plaque unveiled in Lanaster, where she was born. Later in the year a statue will be installed in Manchester.
