I've been an intermittent blood donor since 1978, and much more regularly since retiring in 2020.

Today I learned a new medication I've been prescribed is on the Medication Deferral List for blood donations. So, for the foreseeable future, I won't be able to donate blood.

Pretty bummed about it. I've called my donations "the good habit I just can't seem to break."

Please be a blood donor if you're able.

This afternoon I'm donating platelets again, for the first time in over 5 years. It feels good to be able to do this again. I csn't donate as much money to good causes as I would like to, but I can do this.
It's a slightly odd experience having your blood removed and then pumped back in. Especially as the blood is slightly cool when it comes back.

It was a good day today, I gave #platelets and #plasma but got a super cool Snoopy T-shirt today for donating! If one must know, I have amassed quite a #redcross shirt collection over the years. Apheresis can really make your body temperature plummet, so honestly, it all goes back to further the cause, like the nice toasty beanie, long sleeve shirts, hoodie, and the bag to carry blankets!

This doesn't make sense. The article says if you're in a monogamous gay relationship, you can give blood. But only if you haven't had sex with a man for the last three months (used to be twelve). And there's no apparent mandate that you've tested for HIV in that window. Or that sex with your partner doesn't count(!)
