This is an excellent summary of one chronic problem with ethical tech movements (#FreeSoftware, #OpenSource, #Indymedia, #PlatformCooperativism). We've created structures that help us get the intent right (free licensing, realtime feedback and collaboration, open publishing, internalised ownership). But the cultural competence to mainstream all this, is often lacking.

@astrojuanlu I agree with you on both points. 1) becomes more achievable when there is sufficient funding for dev work, which is more likely with 2) is in place. The platform cooperative movement is actively working on addressing both points.

Decentralisation is the only way forward, be it more distributed or less. Even though distributed architectures would have my preference, software usually requires maintenance, and not anybody wants to run a server.

Sharing the cost of such work can be done in a cooperativised model, like Social.coop @SocialCoop or #CommonsCloud - it can be #OpenCooperativism or #PlatformCooperativism
