In other news. Kirby Triple Deluxe is excellent. It using 3D and gyroscopic controls sparingly but effectively.

You use the gyroscope to pour liquids out of bowls, aim turrets, slide down a rope bridge, ect. They are like short little minigames and half of them can safely be ignored, the ones that you are forced to do are very forgiving and don't overstay their welcome.

NSMB2 is... intresting.

The level design is tricky. Lots of new gimmicks that *are* avoidable but are more punishing than usual for a Mario game; which fits since the game gives you a ton of lives since you collect so many coins.

The only problem with all this is NSMB Mario is very... stiff? Like I'm use to Mario World Mario where he can turn and jump on a dime.

I wanna speed through levels, but Mario just doesn't move that way in this.

The current #GOGSale on #platformers reminded me of an excellent game from my childhood.

Hocus Pocus is an action platformer with a strong exploration focus. You play as an aspiring wizard, zapping monsters with a gun-like finger lightning bolt, collecting treasure, and gathering all the warp crystals to finish each level.

As a late DOS game, it has nice pixel art and smooth, quick gameplay. Warp crystals are placed non-linearly, giving each level something of a mini-metroidvania feel. The game also gives extra points for finishing quickly and for 100% item collection, so I ended up replaying the game to find all the treasure and optimize the routing...and to enjoy the nice snappy gameplay.

Onto island 3 of #SonicFrontiers. It's still got charm as a big playbox of grind rails. Finished filling in the first two islands maps, which feels good.

Finished the skill upgrade system, which seems poorly balanced and not that well thought through. I like the currency, but something more interesting and lasting to use it on would have made sense.

Anda Bandit is my tribute character to old #Nintendo style #platformers and today I was playing around with the idea of her being a monkey rather than a more gnomish sort of creature I'd originally intended. It fits more in-line with the animal kingdoms I have been developing for the setting.

I like the idea that she tries to hide that she's a #monkey by keeping her tail tucked, but it'll pop out when she is excited by loot. Might also have some fun game applications as well.
