Finally got the PicoProbe to upload binaries in #platformIO. Looks like one of the cores stays in hold after flashing. Hope the arduino-pico guy's will update the project accordind the current openOCD version.

Falling back in love with #ESP32 the more I hack on it again. All in on ESP-IDF via #PlatformIO this time around and while it's a bit of an awkward fit into PIO, ESP-IDF's thread-safety is so refreshing compared to all the ARM Arduino stuff I've been poking at recently.

I finally finished adding function prototypes so that I can build in #platformio without editing the code (much). I wanted to do this so that perhaps this project can be made more maintainable... (though nobody asked me to, so I may keep it to myself)

I'm in the middle of a long #embedded task I'm not enjoying, so why not take a moment to complain about it on social media?
I find I've got a love/hate relationship with the #arduino IDE - it's done an incredible amount to open up #embedded development to folks who just want to get something done, and has encouraged chip manufacturers to support it in a way that makes it easier to hop between microcontrollers for different tasks.
It's great for small projects! But that doesn't stop people from using it for larger projects, and doing things like what I'm fighting right now: a very useful device which is implemented in what is effectively a SINGLE FILE with over 18,000 lines of code! The code itself is... fine, but even the task of converting it to something which can be built in #platformio (and perhaps modularized later?) has taken me two hours and counting...
I'm not sure what the right solution here is, but thanks for listening. ;)

Arduino IDE is good for a starting point, but really lacks in some key features, mostly I hated/hate how it handles libraries.
Before I made the switch, I moved all my libraries to directories with in each sketch, this mostly worked. But got time consuming after a while.
It took a little getting use to but I really like how PlatformIO handles libraries. I think it may take a little bit to get use to it. But so far I'm really digging how it works.
