Prediction · #ElonMusk was the #Chicxulub #asteroid that #doomed the #socialmedia #dinosaurs. They’re still vertical, but staggering. A few misguided souls are trying to breed new dinosaurs with the hope of owning and monetizing the world’s conversations.
#Mastodon(s) are mammals; unlike mastodons, the players in the Fediverse aren’t huge, they are the little furry mammals scurrying around those unsteady dinosaur feet. #Federation is the only #plausible way forward.

had a dream that it was 180 degrees F in El Paso but when I tried to google if people were okay my phone kept redirecting to the weather app #plausible
I think I’m going to trial @plausible on the work site (a UK university). Anyone have experience of using it in a medium-sized business? We’ll run concurrently with GA for a while and then see how (ahem) plausible migrating our analytics is.

I asked a question about #Plausible analytics' #openSource commitments and the tumbleweed is rolling on by. I really really hope my fears are misplaced.
GoatCounter – #opensource web #analytics. Free for personal use. I pay for #plausible very happily but Goat seems pretty nice too. https://goatcounter.com/

Thinking I might have made bad decision choosing #plausible analytics.
There's no way to get your data out of their paid saas product, so you're completely locked in. You don't own your data. And new features now come with premiums. And as long term stats are valuable, that's a perfect recipe for future price hikes with no choice but to pay up.
Self hosted works nicely but it now sounds like it will always lack features.
Maybe time to take another look at #umami
Excellent looking new features in #plausible
Funnel analysis + value tracking

Fingers crossed it won't be toooo long before they land in a self hosted release.
Anyone know on (the excellent) @plausible how to remove a user account on the self hosted version?
I can remove users from domains, but I can tell the users still exist somewhere. Is this just a case of rolling up your sleeves and connecting to the postgres db to delete the user there?
@artfulrobot I'm not sure exactly how #plausible has this setup. But if you can access your tables in ClickHouse, you could export your ClickHouse data to a file like described here:
https://clickhouse.com/docs/knowledgebase/file-export#using-command-line-redirection
There are many other similar methods in #clickhouse for writing out to a file locally or in S3
How do people #backup their self-hosted #plausible (in Docker) databases? Seems there's 2: the users etc. and the #clickHouse #database (which is completely new to me). All the data is in Docker volumes.

@ploum Would be even nicer if everyone wasn't going to Matomo when there is more privacy-focused analytics out there too like #plausible but it is better than GA of course.
Ah, so #plausible only records utm params for the request that initiates a session; subsequent ones are ignored. This is interesting: how does it identify a session? e.g. open two private browsing tabs and it considers them the same session. I guess it goes on useragent + IP maybe?
I think I've read that sessions last 30 mins.
So far, despite harder docker set up, I'd say Plausible is beating #umami because it can filter on utm params. But apparently this is coming soon to #Umami.
OK, got them both up and running now.
Don't know what the problem with #plausible was but grateful to someone on github for support.
Both looking good. #plausible shows less info on the graph (#umami shows visitors and views at once), but seems to offer more ways to segment - utm_ parameters are apparently supported, though not actually working for me.
Trying out self hosted #umami and #plausible #webAnalytics #openSource #googleAnalytics alternatives.
So far Plausible (which I have used as a paid service and like) won't start up, but got set up with Umami very quickly and it's working on three sites!
I like the idea of privacy-friendly non-cookie driven, reliable stats with a simple interface; both projects offer this.
My clients all use GA but very few understand it/use it fully, and with the sunset of UA and the horridness of GA4...

did some optimizations to the peertube media caching and moved it to the remote storagedrive again to have more space... i hope the changes will finally do the trick in (more) cutting down the costs caused by the migration to remote storage (b2)... if so, i might open registrations again soon™️ ... watching the thing closely, even added anonymous #plausible analytics ^^
if the video isn't cachet yet, you might experience one or two delays in the beginning of the video – couldn't change this yet
Word Of The Day 5/2/23 is #Plausible.
Plausible (adjective) - seemingly fair, reasonable, or valuable but often not so; appearing worthy of belief.

This is nice. #AGPL-licensed self-hostable #Billing and #Invoicing platform..

I'm looking at #Plausible.io to ditch G*** #Analytics at some of my client projects. Any other recommendations (that I will then add to https://murb.nl/blog?tags=analytics) ?
