day 44
#GratefulDead
Houston Texas 11*18*1972
Rhino Records
Fall of 1972 brings the goods, but there seems to be a lot of issues with the tapes from that time frame. If memory serves, I think some of Bear's gear was stolen.
So to we get a partial show release, but a monster 26 minute Playing In The Band. The cover art here is quite cool!

day 26
Bob Weir
Ace
Warner Brothers Records (1972)
Perhaps the most Grateful Dead on an album that does not bear the Grateful Dead name.
There is a great version of Playing In The Band here that is very developed.

Playing in the Band analysis:

I am planning in the long run to carry out a structural analysis of what makes a long song still recognizable.

It seems the Heads here quite like Grateful Dead. :) I love them as well.
My favourite era is 1973-74 and my favourite song, which I am sure annoyed my family to no end :), is 'Playing in the band'.
The vastness, the opening riff, the journey but mainly the guitar solo that just takes off to a silvery galaxy unknown, so so neat.
