Ya habían pasado cinco años del debut discográfico de los #Ramones, y a pesar de su notoria influencia en el punk y en otras bandas del staff habitual del CBGB que habían ganado reconocimiento en ventas ellos no terminaban de despegar comercialmente. Tras el último fracaso en la producción de Phil Spector buscando ese objetivo la compañía decidió apostar por Graham Gouldman (de 10cc) para insistir en esa búsqueda más orientada hacia el pop. El resultado sería #PleasantDreams, publicado el 20 de julio de 1981. Y si bien el trabajo lograría modificar el sonido original tampoco conseguiría el éxito comercial buscado. Sería éste, lamentablemente, un signo distintivo en la dilatada trayectoria de la banda.
