The SNP plans to use the next GE as a #plebiscite, which means its results will become a de facto #referendum on the Union. As the only remaining way open to Scotland to demonstrate democratic mandate, this is a weak measure. Whether that matters is less clear.,

The SNP's tactics are to show the EU democratic consent in the face of Westminster intractability, in order to gain recognition for any new Scottish state.
