@arndell a part of the pv output is fed to the house mains, reducing my electricity bill. Excess energy from this goes to the grid (for free, as usual for #balkonkraftwerk #PluginPV in Germany).

A few other PV modules feed into a pile of old car batteries (too tired to start a car, fine to provide a few amps of current). A 12V/5V converter provides USB output so I can charge powerbanks. The powerbank enclosures contain old laptop 18650 cells. The overall efficiency is horrible but the panels were free and the batteries were free. This runs a #freifunk node as well.

Other modules charge my electric Piaggio Ape, but this is a work in progress and low priority toy project.

Fixing things... older stuff is usually built better and sometimes comes with a service manual. Dont get fooled by survivor bias. A lot of defects can be fixed with components that cost cents. Sometimes the design is so bad that it takes hours in labour to do this. Intermittent faults are the worst.
