Happy 521st Birthday to Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566)! German, physician, botanist and author of the sumptuously illustrated herbal, De Historia Stirpium Commentarii Insignes (1542), Fuchs is considered one of the three founders of modern botany. The genus Fuchsia would later be named in his honor by Charles Plumier. #Fuchs #Fuchsias #Herbals #Botanists #Plumier

On my walk today I met Plumeria rubra, also Red Frangipani, a #plant species belonging to the genus Plumeria. It is originally native to Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Venezuela. The common name “frangipani” comes from an #Italian noble family, a sixteenth-century marquess of which invented a plumeria-scented perfume. The genus name honors Charles #Plumier, who was a French #monk of the #Franciscan order, and a #botanist. (I am so smart bc. of @FloraIncognita_DE and Wikipedia of course.)
