Disabling my #CO2 detector because I'm keeping the windows closed against #PM25.

Got a loaner of a Piera Systems Canaree I5 air quality monitor and there's a pattern for the past few days. PM2.5 rises during the day and then drops off. A little while ago it was 77 (yellow) and then dropped as low as 13 (very green). Its connected to my PC on the Upper West Side of #nyc

Opened up all the windows this morning when I woke up, to get some fresh air flowing through. I needed to refresh the air in here ahead of a stretch of hot days coming this week here in the Northeast US.

CO2 levels dropped from 1500ppm to under 400ppm. But, PM2.5 and PM10 ROSE from 2 ug/m3 to nearly 7 ug/m3.

I guess the air outside isn’t fresh as I’d have liked..

The air is surprisingly ok outside right now in the upper east side even if AQI for NYC is 89 on the Apple weather map. The one other thing is that when a lot of cars and trucks drive by, the reading at the intersection jumps up to as high as 40+ so you basically want to avoid lots of cars/trucks I think (at least for prolonged periods).

Yesterday, fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) in Manhattan briefly reached the "Hazardous" level (the highest danger category) for the first time, far exceeding the previous highest measurement.

In recent years, high levels of smoke-based air pollution have been a recurring feature in parts of the West. However, an event with concentrated smoke has not been observed in New York since the USA began monitoring PM2.5 in 2004.

Yikes. It’s looking worse today in NYC. PM2.5 is up to 91 *inside* the apartment with the Dyson air filter on. It almost doubled since last night.

I can’t believe the PM2.5 number just kept going up to 215 today in NYC. This was at 7:30pm. Safe levels are 12 and below.
