On the routed Internet you'd run into lots of intermediates on any route not accepting large packets which would make it infeasible to ever pass such traffic. Triggering Path MTU Discovery latency hell dances.

Larger packet sizes can also increase buffering needs at every hop and increase overall latency and jitter for all traffic.

Enter wireless. Wireless tends to prefer small packets. 802.11 has a maximum MTU of around 2300. Mobile networks like 5G and LTE often use something closer to 1400.

So even if you want it and get a few parties to configure their systems for it, it'd be practically unusable for a very very long. I doubt the motivation is there. It doesn't save much outside of a well controlled wire/fiber enterprise intranet.
