Pink flowers of red currant (Ribes sanguineum). Native plants like these require constant control of to thrive.

The grass and weeds in the lower right will have to be removed before they take over and smother the shrub.

Part of today’s clearing project was to remove invasive hawthorn, blackberry, and rose from between these Oregon ash, leaving the Oregon grape and snowberry. This is about a 3-year growth of bramble. See reply for the after.

Huge canes of growing in the trunk of a decrepit Oregon ash. It got this bad because the decades-old, impenetrable was finally brushhogged last summer.

All cleaned up now. The was found in Oregon last year, so who knows what is in store for the ash trees.
