We’ve made some key improvements to the #PNWZone servers over the last couple months. Did you notice that we no longer need to schedule downtime for Mastodon upgrades? In the last month we’ve applied 4 updates with zero downtime. These updates have even become so routine that we’ve stop announcing them unless there are some significant changes that users would be interested in hearing about. :) (1/3)

I just upgraded #PNWZone to Mastodon 4.1.6. This has a fix to the streaming service that I'm hoping will resolve that service needing to periodically restart like it has been doing recently. Latest uptime statistics are over at https://status.pnw.zone

We've seen a slowdown in new members after the burst in the 1st week of July, but we still want to welcome you to #PNWZone if you've joined this month! It is quite interesting to watch the migrations that come in waves! Here are the stats for most of July.

@patl I am in the "wait and see" camp right now. We don't know how Threads will actually federate and implement the ActivityPub protocol. As with any instance on the Fediverse, if another server is blatantly violating the #PNWZone rules, then they will be defederated to protect all the users on my server. Each user also has the ability to block a given domain so that they will not see content from that specific server. That should apply to threads.net as well.

The #PNWZone servers have been updated to Mastodon 4.1.3 with the latest security fixes and with no interruption of service. Enjoy!

@glecharles it's a pretty common complaint I see people have about Mastodon, I think a lot of Twitter users took for granted just how much content was spoonfed to users over the years. Could searching for topics of interest be better? Possibly, but early Twitter was no different in needing to find content with hashtags and handles. I found the lack of content fed to me by an algorithm here on #Mastodon and #PNWZone to be very refreshing.

Reminder that I'll be applying an important Mastodon security update tomorrow, July 6, between 6am PT and 10am PT. No downtime is expected due to our updated infrastructure, but you can visit https://status.pnw.zone/ for any outage reports.

Yesterday the #PNWZone server processed the most daily tasks in its history (tasks represent the background work to move posts throughout the #Fediverse). We had a 27% increase over typical Sunday traffic.
