They don't have to be deep or philosophical or even serious. #Poetry can be fun. My favorite #haiku writer is #TomWilson (aka "Biff" in the #BackToTheFuture franchise). He has such humorous gems as:
"Life matches on, faster and faster,
But the fact is you can't rush toast."
"Danny Bonaduce
prob'ly wouldn't make a good babysitter."
" #FredFlintstone ordered ribs every week
He had to know they'd tip his car."

The black & white dog at the end of her life
learnedĀ she could lift upĀ her headĀ
like a coyote and singĀ to theĀ deerĀ skull
hanging on the wall,Ā to blueĀ petuniasĀ
that would outlast her by a day
to the monsoon downpour she hatedĀ
and the peanut butter pills she loved.Ā
She could howl a counterpoint to a videoĀ
of herselfĀ baying at aĀ bouquetĀ of rusty bellsĀ
hangingĀ from the back porch beam.

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples & pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.
