#Poinsettias aren’t just for #holidays in #Florida. This #plant is native to #Florida and other parts of North and South #America and the #Caribbean. The showier #EuphorbiaPulcherrima is native to #Mexico and #CentralAmerica, and can’t usually survive further north. The #plants are #imported for the #season, then #die and are #discarded.
The humble paintedleaf will remain.

#OTD Paul Ecke "Eck-EE" Sr., German-American Nurseryman, is born.
In 1924, Paul's family nursery moved to 40 acres in #SanDiego County. He had a passion for #Poinsettias & marketed the #Plant as a #Christmas #Flower.
The Ecke nursery dominated the Poinsettia market til other growers learned the secret to compact & robust plants: #Grafting.
All along, Paul dispelled the belief that Poinsettias are poisonous - even eating Poinsettia leaves on-camera to prove his point.

. Adding the leaf veins covered up a lot of the splotches from using too much water. It's not perfect, and my perfectionism brain is trying to rear its head--but I am not listening to it. I stuck with it. My middle and index finger went numb doing the veins with a 000 brush.
Well, I painted until my hand went numb anyway.

Jay grows #Poinsettias from cuttings in his nursery in #Mesa.
Place your Poinsettia on a table or in a corner of the room with good bright light, away from the #Fireplace or other heat sources.
If your Poinsettia comes wrapped, remove the wrapping & water, or poke a hole through the bottom to allow water to escape.
(I always repot mine in #Terracotta 🥰)
