Bluebells
My 5 year old grandson Joseph took this photo with an Instax Mini 90. He's very proud of it too.

My one entry for #PolaroidWeek so far, because this is what’s been occupying my photo brain. I showed some of these in a slideshow with sound last month. They’re part of a bigger book project that’s just not coming together easily.
Also, the camera is dying.

I've been busy this week with an upcoming Polaroid-related Thing (soon, soon!) but that means I haven't had time to produce anything new for #PolaroidWeek
I do finally have this Polaroid emulsion lift properly digitised and ready to show you though!
The original is on Yupo paper, which turns out to be a great medium for lifts if you want to be able to make the paper disappear after. And it dries totally flat 👍
Tempted to try printing it large to see what happens.

Voyager
Space series outtake. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are the only man-made objects to ever leave the heliosphere, the part of the solar system defined by the solar wind (they're actually still within the solar system, which also emcompasses the Oort Cloud, the collection of small objects outside the heliosphere that are still within the grasp of the Sun's gravity). Voyager 1 crossed the boundary in 2012, and Voyager 2 in 2018. This is what they see now.
A couple of ghostly photos of Big Sur for the final day of #PolaroidWeek. This is from an OG pack of Impossible Project Silver Shade film, ca. 2010-11. The cold and rain didn't help the development.

Space Shuttle
The Space Shuttle was the end of manned space exploration by NASA working alone. Future initiatives like the International Space Station are done in collaboration with the Russians. Future manned missions appear to be slated to be the job of commercial companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin. Sadly, the Space Shuttle is remembered mostly for the two disasters that struck it, Challenger in 1986 and Columbia in 2003.

Skylab
America's first space station, made from left over parts from the Apollo missions. It was used between May, 1973, and February, 1974. And here's something I didn't know until just now as I'm writing this: the SX-70 was actually used on Skylab 3 and Skylab 4 to take pictures of a video monitor on the space station to document changes in the sun from orbit to orbit. Polaroids were used in space.

Big Sur and Point Reyes, for day 5 of #PolaroidWeek. I dug out a pack of OG Impossible Project PX100 Silver Shade film from the first year, 2010-2011. Got lucky that it still (mostly) worked!

Splashdown
Apollo capsules splashed down in the ocean until December, 1972. The SX-70 was introduced in April, 1972. Who's to say there wasn't someone on the recovery ship with an early SX-70?

Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, ten days before my sixth birthday. It was a big deal, and hit me at a very impressionable age, ensuring a lifelong interest in space. This famous shot of Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the moon was taken by Neil Armstrong, the only other person on the moon at the time.
