Using #ComputationalMethods, we investigate the occurrence of implicit and explicit ethnic & religious group stigmatization in German #News outlets.

We, then, test how structural factors such as religion, ecnomic wealth, or cultural distance help explain different patterns between groups.

I am a PhD student in communication science in the CCL Lab (U. Vienna) working on #computationalmethods. As part of digitize! In a recent book chapter, Katharina Ludwig & I present a structured #LitReview of #PoliticalPolarization #Effects caused by #SocialMedia Use.

We find that the field suffers from a lack of conceptual & methodological rigor. Taken together, our analysis does not support the often cited notion that #Platforms (let alone #Algorithms) considerably contribute to the #Polarization of their #Users.
