I do resonate to stories of friendship and goodwill, but when it comes to #politicalFiction it's less than half the story for me. You can't have a polity only of people who like each other. Like we have names for that--cronyism and nepotism, and on a larger scale, serious forms of discrimination and violence.

This is why it's always been important to me to write not only about close friends and comrades working together, but also people who don't know each other and even those with bad history and serious conflicts of interest fighting for a common cause. It seems to me one of the distinctions between a personal story and an institutional one. #amWriting #WritingCommunity
