Depending on your political beliefs, your Facebook and Instagram feeds could be exposing you to more false news stories. According to researchers working alongside Meta, conservative users were more likely to see misinformation than liberals and a chronological feed didn't fix political polarization on the platform during the U.S. 2020 election.

In a recent book chapter, Katharina Ludwig & I present a structured #LitReview of #PoliticalPolarization #Effects caused by #SocialMedia Use.
We find that the field suffers from a lack of conceptual & methodological rigor. Taken together, our analysis does not support the often cited notion that #Platforms (let alone #Algorithms) considerably contribute to the #Polarization of their #Users.
