Can reflect underlying preferences, but much is driven by top-down tribalism.
An example is how right-wing libertarians--for years focused on economics, regulation & immigration--now align with TERFish 'gender critical' causes.

My dissertation examines the role of simple visual information in campaign and party branding and it’s effects on not just our political attitudes but the implications for our social lives.
