I'm currently reading Murray Bookchin's Post-Scarcity Anarchism (1971), and it's full of prescient bangers like this:

"It can be argued on very sound theoretical grounds that this growing blanket of carbon dioxide, by intercepting heat radiated from the earth, will lead to more destructive storm patterns and eventually to melting of the polar ice caps, rising sea levels, and the inundation of vast land areas."

This was an absolutely smashing episode of Past Present Future (out of @lrb), which seamlessly interwove essays by Hume on suicide & national debt to illustrate key misreadings of the original position, and how the possibility of "debt suicide" reveals what we owe to one another.

"In the absence of the right kind of checks or constraints, the subgroup of people with power over and access to the resources used to describe, define, and create political realities—in other words, the elites—will capture the group's values, forcing people to coordinate on a narrower social project that disproportionately represents elite interests."

Finally broke down and joined Mastodon. Needed
a new place to share my thoughts given the
downfall of other social media platforms.

As an introduction, I'm a graduate student and
writer studying political theory at the University of
Alberta. Previously, I worked at my student
newspaper, The Gateway, as well.

I'll be posting about
and current events. Anyone
interested in or news, feel free to
reach out!
