We’re planning on doing again this year, but we’ve decided to take it further, with a hard rake of the lawn and intentional sowing of yellow rattle and red poppy seeds. Plus a small packet of wildflower mix.

The yellow rattle is already starting to show so should hopefully reduce the grass this year (it was starting to dominate last year).
If it works out, expect photos.

Planning a deer-proof perennial meadow garden for a client that's loaded with pollinator plants. The bed will be supplemented with summer and winter annuals throughout the year to keep it colorful and attractive to pollinators.

Erica canaliculata (Channelled Heath, Christmas Heather), a native to South Africa, at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, has thousands of cup-shaped, pink flowers in January. The species name "canaliculta" is Latin for "channeled" which refers to the grooves in older stems.

Winter is a little warmer here than I would like but the silver lining is that my Mexican Flame vines are thriving!
