@louis this may be a language issue but to me if it doesn't have a control flow it isn't "programming", it's web design or something else. Personally these days I might suggest #Python or #Ruby as a first language unless there's a platform-specific demand (e.g. #Kotlin for #Android). #Javascript makes it easy to get into bad habits so personally I'd make that a second language. Definitely don't stop at one! #PolyglotProgramming
