If you only have #road #centerlines in your #GIS data you may want to transform them into #beautifully #styled #polygons using only symbology and the useful geometry generator.
Let's see how to you can do this and make your #map beautiful!

Anyone know of an implementation of Delaunay Triangulation in a #scheme?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaunay_triangulation
I've seen a couple in Common Lisp that I could *probably* try to port over.
Related to the rotating 2n-fold polygons to get rhombus rosettes-thing, here is a picture involving rotating partial rings of polygons to getā¦wellā¦something.
It is from about 3 years ago. #rhombusRosette #polygons

Day 3: Polygons
Polygon (legend patches)
The ability to use custom shapes for legends has been available since QGIS 3.14 Pi. This is a simple way to transform your map from something that looks generic into one that is unique (and sometimes more informative).

#PowerBI #MapBox
This looks like a point map, but zoom in (way, way in) and you'll see it's actually an super-detailed polygon map.
The topic is deforestation in Brazil, over 2019-2020. A large spatial dataset was available (~50,000 shapes per year), which I integrated into a Power BI dataviz. The "hero" visualisation uses Mapbox's choropleth feature.
The whole dataviz is interactive - filtering or selecting part of any visual cross-filters the others, including re-drawing the map. This is where Power BI + MapBox are so impressive together.
I went with a satellite background layer, to highlight the natural features being impacted. Red was the obvious colour for the fire shapes, which I used for each shape's outline. As you zoom in, you can see the shape fill represents the class of deforestation.
This project was quite technically challenging, but I was quite happy with the end result, and it was of some use to at least one NGO working on this topic.

Finally caught up to the current day!! š„³
I couldn't decide between these two versions - the data is identical but the layer order, layer alphas and base map colour are a bit different.
The #maps depict the average wind speed at 10m in 12km sections accross the UK, with data from the met office.

An ultra quick one for #30DayMapChallenge - and I can't really claim much credit for this one, I made it in #QGIS using QGreenland as a #15minutemap : #Polygons of #Arctic #SeaIce around #Greenland in March 2016 - here picking out the #NorthWaterPolynya

This is a pattern with 5-fold #symmetry made of 20-gons that I made a couple of years ago. If you arenāt too distracted by the motion, you might be able to see suggestions of lines approximating a 5-fold #rhombus rosette...and possibly a few others..that may disappear when you look directly at themš#mathart #polygons
#polygons #mathart #rhombus #symmetry
This is something that I tweeted a couple of years ago.
It is a pattern based on regular 28-gons which is extendable to form a translationally #symmetric #tiling of the plane. It contains some rings of 7 #polygons, some of 4, as well as other groupings.
My eyes perceive a bit of an illusory twist.
There may also be dots appearing and disappearing.

I think that Iāll post this here for those who havenāt seen it.
It involves one of a āclassā of patterns made of #dodecagons which can be pretty much split into a snub square tiling and its dual cairo-type tiling

Some more #chainMaille stuff from a pattern of #polygons. It is an extension of the pattern shown in the next picture, but I had to start again from the beginning because I could no longer get the small split rings that I had initially used as connectors.
The picture showing the polygon pattern with corresponding chain maille is from my 2020 #BridgesMathArt paper (https://t.co/Km8a2FBIYC).

A few posts back in this thread, I mentioned a short paper that I had written about my #beadCrochet escapades.
Here is a link to the very short video that I had done to elaborate on the stuff described in that paper.
