Normalcy meets the vagus nerve? - Just stumbled over the interesting article, ‚How Normalcy Bias Will Define Our Future‘: „About half of people are almost destined to shut down during an emergency. Even if they can function, they’ll spend precious time gossiping with each other …“ And i wonder how this might be connected to Porges’ jessicawildfire.substack.com/p

Very concise and well-grounded article that sums up the science around the so-called polyvagal theory (PVT). In sum, to call a set of ideas a theory, some basic requirements are necessary. PVT does not fulfill these. Time to finally move on.

“It’s not a measure of health to be well adjusted in a profoundly sick society.”

Sukie Baxter says that is "'One of my favorite quotes ever...I firmly believe that it is by empowering each person to live from their own place of truth rather than conform to a contrived cultural norm that we will ultimately heal as a society.”

@violentphlegm --if you seek out somatic awareness meditation it might be useful, which is observing sensations in the body as meditation focus rather than observing thoughts or brain activity (key is noticing when brain habits try to distract you from observing sensations with more noise/thought/ruminations/judging/fixing)&learning to know that's a distraction from what's happening NOW in the body. Soothing, orienting & clears stuck energy that clumsiness might be signalling??

This is quite possibly the most helpful and informative video I could ever share with someone who's embarking on their healing journey. The length will scare most off, but it goes quickly, and it's so worth it. At the end of the day, you really do get out what you put in.
Invest.

Somebody went and fit THE WHOLE ASS Polyvagal Theory into a single infographic! lmao Jesus shit
I'm not even going to attempt to transcribe this, but if you're looking to learn more about how your nervous system REALLY operates (the 4Fs theory, Fight/Flee/Freeze/Fawn, is now debunked) Turns out, when you're in a complete shut down/collapse/dissociation state, you don't have access to your fight or flight system. Crazy, no? Nerd Nite has a semi long but super informative video on that's a need to know for any nerd or warrior.

Are we ready for a conversation about pathological giving yet? Givers attract takers, and not being able to receive is dysfunctional. It breeds resentment and passive aggressive toxicity. Overgiving doesn't make you a good person, it's a fawn response from a place of porous boundaries, a weak sense of self, and feelings of unworthiness. This isn't empathy, it's co-dependency.
This person was me. I speak from experience, and though I've made some strides, I still struggle. This is a shut down state where most of the world is blocked out because of the tunnel vision associated with trauma. (Check out the for more info) True empathy is impossible here. If you can't take a compliment, trust me, you're not going to be able to accurately accept someone's vibes without a ton of projection and transference.
The moon cannot properly reflect herself in turbulent waters, after all.
