Book 5 of the #2003ReadingList was an #EasyReading / #EasyListening #audiobook #thriller that I picked up for the #Pongal holiday weekend because I saw a teaser/trailer in Amazon Prime TV show few months ago and realized it was based on a book.

The Terminal List by Jack Carr narrated by Ray Porter.

It was ok. Not bad, but not great either. Typical Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn kind of stuff. I'm not a big fan. I don't think I'll go back for more of this series.

#Pongal is in the South (of India). It's Lohri or Sankranti in the north and Poush Sankranti in #Bengal, where winter delicacy of date palm sap jaggery* is used to sweeten. There are many types of pithe, filled crepes or dumplings (with varied additional sauces, embellishments too).

Flour & rice flour + semolina/sooji in a runny batter (got to let it sit and the starch hydrate!) made into crepes that are filled - here coconut + *patali gur (cooked a wee in ghee)

You can take some of the mushy cooked rice and mung dal and if you mix it into a syrup made with jaggery (sugarcane) - with a touch of cardamom if you will) you'll get a rice pudding - Chakkara (or shakkara - meaning sugar or sweet) #Pongal

Skipped here, but you can temper this too - fried cashews and raisins usually. Some versions have additional hints of camphor.

Here's venn pongal - dry toasted yellow mung dal with rice and overcooked with a bit of excess of water + bit of ghee, then post-cook tempered w hot spiced (cumin seeds, black peppercorns, curry leaves, chopped ginger, pinch asafetida, + cashew halves too which we didn't have around) ghee

Enjoy with sides - 🥥 chutney (+ 🍆, 🥔)
