I genuinely empathise with young people who are doing it tough but I am deathly fed-up with articles like the one in today's ABC news by #DavidTaylor that intentionally pit one generation against another (in this case Gen Z vs Boomers), I quote the headline: 'Australia's cost-of-living crisis is hitting young people and low-income earners hard – but boomers are doing alright'.

Other than being an outrageous piece of clickbait, the article witters various generalities until a small chart appears, showing that the older you are, the more time you've had to save money in savings accounts.

That Mr Taylor deliberately elides the plight of struggling younger people with the (clearly) vast fortunes of pensioners who can't afford cars or smartphones, or heating, is an insidious, vile piece of journalistic framing. I am furious with myself for reading such tat but even more angry with Mr Taylor's decision to upset two groups of people simply to make a buck.
